Plastic surgery repairs areas of the body that have been injured or are disfigured in some way.
The Plastic Surgery team sees children locally and from all over the West Midlands Region.
The hospital is a major trauma centre. Members of the Plastic Surgery team work within other services in the trust:
The Regional Cleft Centre is based at the hospital. More than 100 new babies per year are seen by the well-established team.
The Supra-Regional Craniofacial Service is also well established and one of only four in the country. This service is growing and currently has a weekly operating list and weekly clinic.
The Birmingham Children's Hand and Upper Limb Service treats hand deformities present at birth, complex forearm anomalies, obstetric brachial plexus palsy injuries (a type of injury caused at birth) and arthrogryposis (where the joints do not develop properly in the womb). The service also provides expert advice for children with epidermolysis bullosa and rheumatoid arthritis as well as complex upper limb trauma.
