Respiratory Medicine

We see and treat children with lung (respiratory) conditions in the West Midlands.

Our team of doctors, specialist nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians and scientists investigate and manage acute (short term) and chronic (long term) lung disease or complex respiratory conditions. These include asthma, cystic fibrosis, chronic lung disease and primary ciliary dyskinesia.

To help find out what is wrong, we can use overnight sleep studies (cardio-respiratory monitoring), bronchoscopy, specialist breathing tests, assessment for non-invasive ventilation, and allergy skin tests.

We are the specialist team for children with cystic fibrosis in the West Midlands. We have close links with other specialist teams in the hospital, including the liver and endocrine teams, and help look after children with doctors from other hospitals, and general practitioners.
