Dr Simon P McGuirk
Dr Simon McGuirk is a Consultant Paediatric Radiologist and Head of Specialty for Interventional Radiology, as well as Lead Radiologist for Cardiac Imaging.
Simon’s specialist interests lie within vascular anomalies, in particular lymphatic and vascular malformations, and arterial disease in childhood; this also includes an interest in high-flow Arteriovenous Malformations (AVM).
Qualifications and training
Simon graduated from Newcastle University Medical School in 1997. He undertook specialist training in adult and paediatric cardiac surgery, including a PHD in Cardiovascular Physiology in Congenital Heart Disease.
Simon subsequently underwent Radiology training at The South West Peninsula Radiology Academy in Plymouth, and the West Midlands Postgraduate School of Radiology. This included a 12 month fellowship in Paediatric Interventional Radiology and Paediatric Cardiac MRI at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Simon has a particular interest in cardiovascular and respiratory physiology and the effect of intervention and the changes that occur during and following intervention. In addition, Simon is also interested in the management of vascular anomalies.
Simon is an honorary consultant at the Queen Elizabeth hospital and has an honorary fellowship at the University of Birmingham.
