I qualified as a dentist at Leeds University in December 1989, after graduating I worked as an SHO at Alderhey Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street then went on to complete a two year masters programme in Paediatric Dentistry at Leeds University between 1994 to 1996.
During this period I joined the Ridings Branch of British Society of Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD). I carried out specialist training at Birmingham Dental and Children's Hospital gaining my Intercollegiate Fellowship in Paediatric Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2001. I was then appointed part time consultant in Paediatric Dentistry at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
This post was predominately working with the West Midlands Cleft Team caring for children with cleft lip and palate. I was involved in setting up the Special Interest Group in Cleft Paediatric Dentistry and was the first chair of this group. I am actively involved in collecting dental health data for cleft children which is submitted annually to CRANE and quality dashboard. I was also involved in collecting the dental data for the Cleft Care UK (CCUK) study in 2013. At Birmingham Children's Hospital I also work with the Epidermolysis Bullosa, Metabolic disorders and Haemophilia teams providing care for these special patients. My interest in these patients has involved in audit, clinical guidelines and presentations at National and International Conferences.
I am an active committee member of the West Midlands branch of British Society of Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD) and attend the National Annual Conferences, I was president of the Branch in 2000. I was appointed President of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry in September 2009. I am committed to training paediatric dentists of the future. I was Training programme Director for Paediatric Dentistry in the West Midlands (2005 – 2015) as well as a trainer for trainees in paediatric dentistry at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. I was the first chair of National recruitment in Paediatric Dentistry which was set up in 2013. I have been a member of the Paediatric Dentistry Advisory Board for the Royal College of surgeons of Edinburgh and an examiner for the Membership in Paediatric Dentistry and Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examinations (ISFE) Examinations. I was appointed chair of the National recruitment in Paediatric Dentistry in 2013 and the Chair of SAC in Paediatric Dentistry in 2015.
I am a Mother to two teenagers which keeps me on my toes. I love singing and I'm an active member of two choirs. My other interests are Pilates, flower arranging and sailing.
