Infection Control – help us keep our infection rates low

We take infection prevention and control very seriously at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Infection control policies and procedures are in place, which all staff must follow, but we ask our children, young people and families to also play their part in keeping our infection rates low.

Please see our hints and tips how to see how you can help:

•       Always use hand gel or wash your hands with soap when entering or exiting a ward

•       Do not visit with any symptoms of an infection, including high temperature, cold or flu-like symptoms, vomiting, diarrhoea or a skin rash.

•       Do not use the parents’ room or ward kitchen if your child is being isolated. Please ask a member of staff for assistance

•       Keep side room or cubicle doors closed if your child is being cared for in isolation
