Birmingham Children's Hospital takes playtime very seriously. We meet nine-year-old heart patient Harry, using toys and games to get him used to spending time in hospital, with play specialist Helen Costello.
Toys and games are used by the play specialists at the hospital to build up trust with the patients and to help overcome fear.
Harry has come into hospital to have an operation on his heart because one of his arteries is too narrow. Helen Costello plays with Harry and a puppet called Tommy to make sure that Harry understands why he needs to have his operation and to help him feel less scared about what's going to happen to him.
They have great fun, but at the same time Helen can explain things in a child-friendly way to help Harry and his mum feel comfortable and calm about Harry's operation.
The play team helps the parents and other family members too.
