    Mr Richard Michael Irving provides otology services for all age groups. In children this includes those with hearing loss, balance disturbance and facial paralysis. His practice includes providing surgical approaches to hearing rehabilitation including cochlear implants. Mr Irving also runs rare diseases clinics for children with NF2 and for those with a predisposition to hereditary paragangliomas.

    As an Occupational Therapist (OT),  I am interested in how you use your arms and hands in everyday life. For example, getting dressed, brushing your teeth, eating and handwriting.  I will also ask you about whether you need help at home,  such as getting into the bath, and whether any equipment might help you be more independent. 

    I will also want to make sure that your life outside hospital is meaningful, so will ask questions about how you get on at school, with your friends and how you spend your spare time.

    Consultant paediatric surgeon moved to Birmingham Children’s Hospital in 2008; he has previously worked as a consultant in Germany and the Netherlands.  His special interests are laparoscopy, neonatal surgery and especially congenital diaphragmatic hernias and oesophageal atresia, surgical oncology and surgery for the lower GI tract.  Together with Mr Oli Gee he runs a specialist clinic in lower GI problems this includes managing ano-rectal malformations, Hirschsprung’s disease, and inflammatory bowel disease. He also undertakes non-transplant surgery for intestinal failure.

    Appointed a consultant in 1997, Mr Lander is presently clinical director for the division of surgery at Birmingham Children's Hospital. His interests are neonatal surgery, anorectal malformations and Hirschsprung’s disease.  He is involved in national teaching of paediatric surgery trainees both in the UK and abroad.
